There's something very familiar about it, and something that's really not. The original Real Deal Brazil recycled-tarp hat is sort of like a fedora, sort of like an Aussie Outback hat -- except after a full day spent atop Indiana Jones as he's being beaten and dragged to within an inch of his life. From color shifts to wild and jagged stitching, ragged patches, stains, frays, punctures and even occasional ink marks, every uncommon characteristic of the Original RDB hat hints at the story of its prior life as a lonely truck tarp, and its rough journeys through harsh elements in the starkly shifting climates of Brazil. It's such a cool history for a hat to have that we actually print a short version of it inside each crown! The original Real Deal recycled-tarp hat is handcrafted in a remote town in equatorial Brazil, where recycling actually informs nearly every aspect of production, from the salvaged tarp scraps being applied as patches on other hats right down to the heavy wire hidden within each brim. That thin band of steel, reclaimed from trash-bound old truck tires, adds yet another element of uniqueness, allowing you to shape your own RDB pretty much any way you please! Authentic, rugged and effortlessly cool -- find another head-topper that can top that!

Better than expected

You never know what shows up at times but I was pleased with this purchase. Definitely a unique hat with a story behind it, quality hat as well, fits great, I should have bought 2. Staff was easy to contact and easy to talk with, I’ll be back.

Tough hat

I have one of these hats I bought back in 2006, it's still going strong. But the rim won't stay how I want it, so it's time for a new one. After 18 years of abuse from me, this one will go on the wall as decoration. Putting a order in for a new one today.

Fits great! Keeps it's shape, and is very comfortable. I'm surprised it goes around my big head! Love it!

This is an amazing hat! The tarp is tough and survived a dog attack. The hat brim is flexible but does not droop . Fit is great. I recommend this for a utilitarian hat.

I really like this hat. The material is heavy and waterproof, and looks nicely worn, like I've owned it for 20 years. (Don't tell the folks at Big Head Caps, but now that I have it in hand, I would have paid $20 more for it :^) The brim is wide, so a good sun hat. However, the brim can't really be reshaped -- the wire inside it has a "memory." That means you can compress it into a suitcase without it going out of shape (as long as you don't over-bend the wire, which is possible.) I really like changing the shape of my hats frequently, so I will probably end up replacing the wire with a bendable wire, but if you like the keep your hats in the same shape, then this is perfect as-is. Size notice -- I wear a 7-7/8 hat, and this 2XL was a little too big, believe it or not. I ended up putting some 1/4-inch hat foam under the elastic inside the brim, and now it fits perfectly.
